When To Replace A Roof

In Florida, insurance companies require homeowners to replace their roof after 20-years. Check with your insurance company for exact details on their requirements.

Unfortunately, some roofs expire before that time due to storm damage or poor installation. As your roof nears the end of it’s life, you will know this by how often you need to get a roof repaired. It’s common to do one or two repairs in order to keep your roof alive.

Often the first part of a roof to fail will be the flashing around the pipes or edges of the roof. If this is the case, they can be repaired.

Before & After Roof Replacement

This customer needed a new roof so we removed the existing roof down to the plywood. Inspected the wood and replaced any damaged pieces. Installed new underlayment and shingles. Along with two new skylights.

How We Got Our Name

Scouts’ the good-looking fellow on our Logo and he’s been part of the team since the beginning. He’s popular with our customers because he’s been riding with Alex, the owner, to most of the estimates for over 5-years. Scouts’ all-boy, rambunctious, and constantly getting into something. When we were building out the office Scout rubbed up against the freshly painted blue walls and Chuy brought it to my attention (Hey man you got a Blue Dog) and that’s where the name Blue Dog Roofing came from.

Shingle Roof Replacement Process

Remove original roof: We start by laying out tarps to protect the grounds. Then we remove and dispose of the old roof, clearing everything away to inspect the decking.

-Rotten wood: If your roof has any rotten wood, it needs to be replaced before the new roof is installed. Rotten wood can cause a lot of damage to your home and can be a safety hazard.

Underlayment: Underlayment is a layer of material that is installed under the shingles. It helps to protect the roof from weather damage and also helps to keep the shingles in place.

Ice and water guard: Ice and water guard is a material that is installed along the edge of the roof. It helps to prevent ice dams and water damage.

Metal flashing: Metal flashing is used to seal off areas where the roof meets the walls or chimney. It helps to keep moisture out of these areas and prevents leaks.

Architectural shingles: Architectural shingles are a type of shingle that adds extra protection to your roof. They are made to withstand high winds and extreme weather conditions.

Ventilation System: It’s important to have a ventilation system installed on your roof in order to keep the house cooler and also to prolong the life of your shingles.

Roofing is an important part of protecting your home so don’t wait until it’s too late! The cost to replace a shingle roof can sometimes be as much as $20,000 but the average lifespan of a new shingle roof is about 25-50 years. That means over the course of its life, your roof will actually save you money by keeping your energy bills low and preventing water damage. Not to mention, a new roof also increases the curb appeal and value of your home.

Here we’ve compiled a list of pros and cons for you to review for those who are considering tile vs shingle roof options.

5/5

Alex from Blue Dog came out to look at the problem right away on a Friday and was thorough in explaining the problem. They were able to do the work on Monday. His crew was friendly and efficient. A nice feature is they post pictures as the work is being done so you don’t have to go to the roof to see it.

After interviewing many potential roof repair service companies I decided on Using “Blue Dog“ The information that he provided and the knowledge that he had was the determining factor. He was extremely helpful in explaining my situation to me where I could understand. Alex and his crew were very organized on time and efficient. I do not make these decisions lightly. I’m always skeptical of people trying to sell me something I don’t need. Thank you again Alex and crew

Metal Roof Replacement

Metal roofs are popular in Florida because they are durable and can withstand the hot, humid weather. Metal roofs can last for up to 50 years, making them a wise investment for homeowners.

Metal roofs can last even longer than 50 years with proper maintenance. Routine inspections and cleaning can help to prevent corrosion and extend the life of your metal roof. If any damage does occur, it can be quickly repaired. Making a metal roof replacement an investment that will not only improve the curb appeal of your home but also the value.

Metal roofs come in two main types: standing seam and corrugated. Standing seam metal roofs are more popular, as they are more durable and have a longer life span. Corrugated metal roofs are less expensive, but also less durable.

Before deciding on a metal roof replacement, be sure to research the different types of metal roofs available and decide which is best for your home. A corrugated metal roof will require more maintenance because it’s held together by screws that are exposed to the elements. This is an important feature to consider when replacing your roof.

We recommend standing seam metal roof and have years of experience installing them. They come with a high wind resistance of 150 mph, which is more than shingles.
