Advice From A Skylight Contractor

If you’re like most people, you probably take skylights for granted. You may think of them as a nice architectural feature that can add some natural light and ventilation to your home, but that’s about it. What you may not know is that skylights can also play an important role in your home’s energy efficiency. A skylight that is not properly installed or maintained can be a major source of heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer.

That’s why it’s important to have a qualified skylight contractor to inspect and evaluate what is causing the leak in your skylight or what skylight would be right for your home. Blue Dog Roofing is a skylight contractor with years of experience in repairing and replacing skylights. We can help you choose the right skylight for your home and ensure that it is installed correctly so that you can enjoy the benefits of natural light and ventilation for years to come.

Different Types Of Skylights

There are multiple types of skylights to choose from, so it’s important to choose the right one for your home. The most common types of skylights are fixed skylights, sun tunnels, and venting skylights. Whether you’re getting a skylight for the first time or getting a roof replacement, we can get the skylight you need.

Fixed skylights are the most traditional type of skylight. They are called a fixed skylight because it doesn’t have any moving parts like a vented skylight. Fixed skylights are available in a variety of sizes and shapes to fit any home. If the opening in your roof is unique, we can even have a custom skylight made to replace it.

Sun tunnels, also known as skylight tubes, are a type of skylight that uses a reflective tunnel to bring sunlight into your home. Sun tunnels are a great option for homes with limited roof space or for rooms that don’t have an exterior wall, such as a closet or bathroom.

Venting skylights are skylights that can be opened to ventilate your home. They are available in manual or motorized models. Venting skylights are great for rooms that get a lot of sun exposure or for homes in humid climates.

Skylight Accessories

If you’re looking for a skylight contractor, you’ve come to the right place. Our team is able to offer you a handful of different features that you will want to add to your skylight replacement project. From solar powered features to tint, shades and more.

If you’re in the market for a new skylight, be sure to order skylight blinds to go along with it. Skylight blinds are a great way to control the amount of light and heat that enters your home through your skylight.

Skylight blinds come in different colors and thicknesses so that you can get the perfect fit for your skylight. You can order skylight blinds in a variety of colors, including white, black, and gray. You can also choose from a variety of thicknesses, depending on the level of sunlight you want. Thicker skylight blinds will block out more light, while thinner skylight blinds will let in more light.

Our venting skylights are solar powered, so you can open them with ease. With just the touch of a button, you can open your skylight to let in some fresh air. Our solar powered skylights are a great way to reduce your energy bills and help the environment.

Skylights can be a great addition to your home, but they can also be a major source of heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer. That’s why it’s important to have a skylight contractor install a skylight that is properly tinted to reduce the amount of sun that enters your home. Ask our team about skylight tinting options.

How To Prevent Skylight Leaks

As nice as it is to have a skylight, they also provide yet another possibility for a leak in the future. Even the smallest detail, if installed wrong, can cause a leak. The best way to prevent skylight leaks is to have a qualified skylight contractor install your skylight.

When installing a skylight, our team takes special care to seal the skylight and flashing so that there are no gaps for water to enter. We also use high quality materials that are designed to withstand the elements.

While replacing a skylight, it’s important to have ice and water shield installed around the base of the skylight. Next, you want to make sure you are using the right flashing kit. Each skylight is made with a specific flashing kit designed by the manufacture to match the skylight and roofing material.

Custom skylights will require a custom flashing ket made on site. But with an experienced skylight contractor, this won’t be a problem.

Once everything is in place and the roofing material has been installed, you’ll want to keep an eye on the skylight occasionally to make sure debris isn’t building up behind the skylight. This typically isn’t a problem if your roof is out in the open. But with extra debris on the roof, it can cause water to back up into the wrong places.

Alex from Blue Dog came out to look at the problem right away on a Friday and was thorough in explaining the problem. They were able to do the work on Monday. His crew was friendly and efficient. A nice feature is they post pictures as the work is being done so you don’t have to go to the roof to see it.

After interviewing many potential roof repair service companies I decided on Using “Blue Dog“ The information that he provided and the knowledge that he had was the determining factor. He was extremely helpful in explaining my situation to me where I could understand. Alex and his crew were very organized on time and efficient. I do not make these decisions lightly. I’m always skeptical of people trying to sell me something I don’t need. Thank you again Alex and crew
